Arranging a 20-day walk doesn’t happen by chance – and it can’t be done last-minute. The four of us started the process back in October 2022, With two of us in New Zealand and two in Australia, that meant Zoom calls and frequent emails. Fortunately we could draw on Peter and Val’s experiences planning and walking Land’s End to John O’Groats back in 2018 to help. Season? Spring would be best. Direction? West to east, with the prevailing wind at our backs. Accommodation? We knew that would be the tricky part, and so it proved to be. Splitting the research and bookings between both couples made life easier, though, and eventually we got there. With a mix of B&Bs, pubs and the odd YHA, it will be a great mix.
Oh, and this time we’re taking advantage of a “pack transfer” service, to make life slightly easier (except for two days where it’s not available). After all, the Lake District boasts several taxing climbs, and we’re not getting any younger!
